SPW reaches 400,000 young people per year - working with each of them on a weekly basis - for just $9 per child.

Your support and contributions allow SPW to recruit, train and support African and Asian volunteers. These educated and highly motivated young people are the most effective - but untapped - resource available for tackling some of the world's most devastating issues, such as the AIDS epidemic, poor nutrition and sanitation. SPW volunteers give other young people the confidence and knowledge needed to change their behavior, protecting their health and their environment, both social and physical, and the chance to take the lead in overcoming poverty in their communities.

SPW works in some of the most disadvantaged regions of the world, reaching and empowering vulnerable young people and their communities. It is estimated that a pair of volunteers can reach as many as 3,000 young people each year with life-saving information. For more detailed financial information, please click here.

Donations in Action

SPW runs high-impact, low-cost programs. Every dollar donated has immediate and lasting effect on our programs. Below are some of the examples of what our volunteers can achieve with your help.

$35

Will not only fund materials for volunteers to demonstrate the effectiveness of fuel efficient stoves, but allow the stoves to be replicated across an entire community. This slows the current rapid depletion of local resources while conserving the environment.

$90

Will fund a community awareness campaign on health / environmental issues. These events reach hundreds of people and are essential to encourage community support and dispel myths and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

$175

Will fund one Youth Resource Centre in a school in Zambia, stocked with much-needed youth-friendly information and leaflets printed in the local language, giving approximately 450 students access to crucial health information.

$400

SPW volunteers can enable a women’s group to set up their own small income-generating project, such as a pig farm or craft project, giving the community essential income as well as providing financial security and empowerment for women.

$600

Will fund the installation of a Tube Well in Nepal, providing a rural community with essential clean water.

$1,000

SPW can provide training for the staff of one health clinic in the delivery of youth friendly services.

$3,000

Will sponsor an African or Asian volunteer for an eight-month placement to be a peer-educator, teaching in- and out-of-school youth, building links with health clinics and local organisations to provide urgently required services.

$6,000

Will fund a Youth Week run by SPW volunteers for 200 students. These young people will learn how HIV/AIDS is transmitted and prevented and increase their life-skills such as self-esteem and decision-making so they can become active role models in their communities.

$10,000

Will fund the annual nationwide University Speaker Tour, which aims to strengthen youth solidarity in tackling an epidemic that kills one young person every 15 seconds. The speaker tours give students and the public the opportunity to hear what it is like for young people on the front line of the epidemic.
