APPLICATIONS!

When should I apply?

Programs are filled from our US, UK and Australia offices on a first-come, first-serve basis, so applying early will give you the best choice of programs. We always endeavor to give each selected applicant a place on their preferred program, but sometimes may be unable to do so.

How are volunteers selected?

Applicants are selected on the basis of their application form, personal statement, references and one or more interviews. If you are unsure whether to apply, register for a conference call Information Session. This will give you the chance to talk with former volunteers about their time overseas. These sessions are the best way to find out what life is really like as an SPW volunteer!

Do I have to be American?

No! We accept applications from 18-28 year olds from all countries and encourage you to contact your nearest SPW office. An increasing proportion of our “international volunteers” are from continental Europe, Australasia and the Americas. Over half of our volunteers are recruited locally, in the countries where we work.
